About the project:
From smartphone to sketchbook:
While the premise is rooted in events that took place on the 26th of September 2025 (and, further away, the 26th of September 2007 ). The project itself did not stem from a whim, a dream, a vision, or anything of the sort.
No, it is the result of a decision I made eight years ago:
To swap my smartphone for a simple sketchbook.
I began drawing everything I saw, everywhere I went, on the bus, on the train, in the rain, while walking, and so on.
I still carry a sketchbook with me everywhere, ready to whip it out at a moment’s notice.
This intensive practice provided me with the technical skills needed to bring my core idea to life.
But it was, above all, my years spent working in the restaurant industry that led me to hone my favourite drawing technique: "drawing without drawing."
Without a mastery of this technique, this project would not be possible.
Narrative style:
Much like a user scrolling through news feeds on a smartphone, many panels are separated from the next by a leap in time. Whether it’s a matter of minutes, hours, or days—or even a jump into the past—this constant temporal shifting gives the narrative a fast-paced, breathless rhythm.
When a scene carries greater significance, the pacing slows down.
Occasional wide shots are used for moments that fall outside the ordinary, such as supernatural occurrences or sudden, dramatic plot twists.
Artistic approach:
For the sake of immersion and authenticity, I avoid using stock images or photographs as reference material. My artistic process is rooted in reality:
I visit the locations myself streets, parks, beaches, restaurants and draw them as they appear, incorporating them into the world of my characters.
Setting and timeframe:
The story takes place in the present day and unfolds in step with current events.
War, epidemics, heatwaves, or political developments can influence the plot and the protagonist’s life.
The detrimental effects of digital technology on our daily lives lie at the heart of this project.
More than just a comic with a retro aesthetic, this project aims to offer a more optimistic perspective on a challenging phase of life: The midlife crisis
Even if it feels as though nothing extraordinary has happened over the course of fifty years, the greatest battle or the greatest opportunity of one’s life can sometimes emerge when it is least expected. This project is intended for those currently navigating this milestone, as well as for those who dread its arrival.
